The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

While previous generations of the M-Class blended utility with luxury, the updated 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class features an upgraded cabin with interior trim more befitting a luxury sedan. Many of its interior design cues were taken directly from the flagship S-Class sedan, and luxurious trim options such as ash wood trim and nappa leather paneling abound. It also features a full range of high-end features including an upgraded version of Mercedes-Benz COMAND system driving its large multi-function display.

More than a luxurious vehicle, the M-Class is a safe vehicle. Mercedes will be building it with every one of its safety features available. Going well beyond its nine available airbags, the M-Class also adds a full range of driver assist features. These include an attention assist tool which keeps drivers from nodding off, blind spot assist, and even an infrared Night View Assist Plus system which can identify passengers in the road.

In the United States, Mercedes-Benz will initially sell the M-Class with a choice of two different six-cylinder engines. The first is a 3.5 liter Blue Efficiency engine which runs on gasoline and generates 306 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, powering the SUV from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 7.6 seconds. The other ML350 option has a fuel-sipping BlueTec CDI diesel engine which generates 258 horsepower and a staggering 457 pound-feet of torque with European fuel efficiency of 32 miles per gallon. Mercedes will also be releasing a version of the M-Class with a 4.6 liter V8 engine later in the model year.

Every ML350 SUV for the American market will feature Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC all wheel drive system for better handling in inclement weather and an optional off-road package with a two-speed transfer case and lifted air suspension. They will all feature a seven speed automatic transmission and an air suspension which can also be upgraded for better on-road handling.

The style of the new 2012 M-Class combines the appearance of previous generations of Mercedes-Benz SUVs while also tapping into Mercedes' new design sensibility. While it features the integrated spoilers that have given the M-Class a history of strong aerodynamic performance, it also features a rear configuration inspired by the new E-Class sedan and a front grille with a prominent three-pointed star and design cues that connect it to the G-Class sport utility vehicles.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class will combine better fuel efficiency, more luxury, more power, and upgraded safety into a uniquely appealing package.
