The new Mercedes-Benz GLA: added character, added space, added safety

The new GLA, which is the fourth model to join the line-up in the U.S. market, rounds off the current compact car options from Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle represents the gateway into the brand's successful family of SUV models. Take a look at some of the most important features of this new vehicle:

The GLA is more than 3.9 inches higher than its predecessor, but it’s also 0.6 inches shorter. It will offer more headroom at the front, as well as considerably more legroom in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle also offers very low wind resistance. In addition, in its 4MATIC guise, it includes the Off-Road Engineering Package as a standard feature. Also standard overall is the intuitively operated MBUX infotainment system (Mercedes-Benz User Experience).

When in emergency situations, the GLA is able to react when the driver doesn't with the Active Brake Assist system which comes standard. The Active Break Assist system can apply autonomous braking in order to avoid a collision or to reduce the severity of the accident.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA extends the functions of the Driver Assistance Package with the addition of, for example, the exit warning function which has the goal of alerting the driver to approaching cyclists or vehicles, as well as providing a warning when pedestrians are detected near crosswalks.

Overall, the GLA is able to react when the driver doesn't.

The GLA is the entry-level model in the successful Mercedes-Benz SUV family. It is the sporty and lifestyle- oriented sibling of the GLB.

The new GLA combines the best from the two highest-volume segments. They are the compact car and the SUVs.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA launches in the U.S. in summer 2020.
