Symphony of performance: Biturbo power, active exhaust. The biturbo V-8s of the S-Class orchestrate their power with the millisecond-quick precision of high-pressure Direct Injection and multispark ignition. Active flaps in their exhaust systems let the 449-hp S550 and 577-hp AMG® S 63 play their own unique crescendos in response to their driver's enthusiasm. The 4.7L V8 combines twin turbos and numerous advances to deliver more torque from less fuel, with cleaner emissions. Rapid-multispark ignition can fire up to four times per millisecond, while high-pressure Direct Injection can fine-tune fuel spray in 0.1 millisecond, reducing emissions, fuel consumption and noise. A lightweight diecast-alloy block, widely variable valve timing, reduced friction, and clever "on-demand" ancillary components further boost efficiency.The S-Class features a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles. With a greater range of ratios and shorter steps between gears, the new 9-speed automatic changes gears more quickly but nearly imperceptibly. Along with more seamless delivery of power, the lighter, more versatile transmission enhances comfort and fuel-efficiency. A sleek electronic selector and sporty shift paddles let you change gears without taking a hand from the steering wheel. In addition to being configured as a true dual exhaust, dual-position internal flaps pneumatically open and close based on engine rpm and the selected driving mode. Changing the path of the exhaust through the rear mufflers emits a fuller, sportier sound, celebrating the engine's power and elevating the driver's enthusiasm. In the Sport mode, the changeover occurs at lower rpm. And at startup, the system unleashes a growl from the engine that's sure to inspire a grin from the driver.

Collision Prevention Assist is a Radar-based technology alerts you if you're approaching a vehicle ahead, or even some stationary objects, at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. As soon as the driver starts to brake, its Adaptive Brake Assist automatically provides the ideal level of braking, to help prevent a collision or reduce its severity. The system can also provide autonomous braking from speeds up to 65 mph, and can activate the features of PRESAFE®.  The Crosswind Assist interprets information that is continually supplied by the car's Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), electric power steering and suspension sensors, Crosswind Assist help detect the effects of strong side winds on the vehicle's handling stability at highway speeds. Whether caused by lateral gusts or even a passing truck, the system helps keep the car on course via strategic braking of the wheels on one side of the vehicle.

As you drive by parking spaces, Active Parking Assist helps you size them up using sensors in the bumper. Once you decide to back into a space, it can expertly steer and brake the car for you. When it's time to leave, it can even steer you back out. In any low-speed maneuver, PARKTRONIC's ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers help detect nearby objects within its field of view. Audible signals and illuminated displays in the cabin help you navigate tight spaces with confidence.
