Super Bowl LI will mark Mercedes-Benz's 4th ad...and they love to keep us guessing!  While they have not revealed any details about the ad that will air on February 5th, we do know that Merkley and Partners will again be involved in the making. The #EasyDriver-themed commercial sees a bunch of burly bikers enjoying a pit stop before they learn that they have been blocked in. Who in their right mind would block these guys in? They're ready to get rough and ready with whoever the culprit is.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of their Mercedes-AMG sports brand. If previous Super Bowl XLVII commercial is anything to reference, we could expect to see celebration by way of a race of all races, with their high-performance sports cars. "We consider it still today to be the single most important communication channel a marketer can exploit," Mercedes-Benz USA Marketing VP Drew Slaven said. He declined to reveal creative details, or identify which model or models would be featured in the spot, but, 4 teasers were released on January 24th to give you an idea of what to expect before releasing the full commercial prior to the big game.

Mercedes has previously run Super Bowl ads in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Mr. Slaven cited the news frenzy surrounding the 2016 presidential election as one reason why Mercedes sat out Super Bowl 50, which is why they waited until after January 20th to release any information about their ad this year. In 2015, Mercedes took a new twist on the classic car ad. They used the event to reenact the most famous of races...The Tortoise and The Hare. Using the hashtag #TheBigRace, Mercedes invited viewers to weigh-in on who they thought should win the race. Hint...the Tortoise used the GT. In 2013, for Super Bowl XLVII, Mercedes introduced the CLA as a new Mercedes that anyone can afford, without having to sell their soul. The ad shows a regular guy contemplating a deal with the devil, who tempts the young man with a new Mercedes AND everything that comes with it.

The brand is most interested in seizing on the eyeballs the game draws. During a press event on Monday, January 23rd, at the auto show, Mercedes unveiled the 2018 E-class coupe. The brand in 2017 is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG, which is its sports car and high-performance brand. The theme is "50 Years of Driving Performance." Engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher started AMG in an old mill in Burgstall, Germany, with the mission of developing and testing racing engines for Mercedes vehicles.
